Win or lose, mixed martial arts isn’t easy.
Just ask Derrick Lewis, who defeated Travis Browne at UFC Halifax on Sunday night. The UFC heavyweight just took to Instagram to reveal that despite his victory, he suffered a broken foot in the two round main event.
“I’ve been in tougher fights,” he says in the clip, while the doctor begins to set a cast.
Lucky for him, despite the injury, Lewis’ stock is higher than it’s ever been. After winning with a brutal knockout, Lewis took the microphone and cut an… enthusiastic promo, that got social media and pundits buzzing, before heading backstage to brand himself interim heavyweight champion — complete with a mock title.
“I just know I had a bigger heart than [Travis],” Lewis said post-fight. “He call himself a man but he likes to put his hands on women. Forget that guy, I got much more heart than he has. Where’s Ronda Rousey’s fine ass at?”
Perhaps the broken foot could provide a silver lining for ‘The Black Beast’. He had complained he required time away from fighting in order relax and fix a grumpy home life. Now, no matter what the UFC says, that’s unavoidable.
