There are natural athletes and then there is Yoel Romero.
The former Cuban Olympic wrestler, who faces Robert Whittaker for the UFC’s interim middleweight title at UFC 213 this weekend, has been showing off his athleticism at the official open-workouts ahead of the event in Las Vegas on Saturday and, as per the video evidence below, it’s difficult to believe that the ‘Solider of God’ turns 41 on his next birthday.
Romero is the winner of eight straight bouts in the UFC and he knows that a ninth successive win would guarantee him an opportunity to claim the undisputed middleweight title from Michael Bisping in his next bout.
In his way stands a fighter who hasn’t tasted defeat in his last six bouts. Robert Whittaker has been the dark horse in a middleweight division currently fighting among themselves to establish a clear number one contender to Bisping’s title. Whittaker too possesses incredible natural athleticism coupled with a powerful striking arsenal but when it comes to sheer natural ability, few fighters on the UFC roster come close to Romero.
