The UFC’s scramble to find a late replacement to step in for the injured Glover Teixeira in the UFC Sao Paulo main event on September 22 appears to have paid off. 

Brazil’s Thiago Santos, who has fought each of his 15 UFC bouts in the middleweight division, will step up to the light heavyweight fold to face England’s Jimi Manuwa in the featured bout in a little over a month’s time. News of the fight was first reported by ESPN.

This comes following Brazilian slugger Teixeira’s withdrawal earlier this week.

Santos was last seen in the octagon at the beginning of this month, where he earned a decision victory against Kevin Holland, the fifth win of his last six outings inside the UFC.

Manuwa, meanwhile, will look to arrest a two-fight skid against Santos. The British fighter (17-4) has come up short in his last two contests, losing by decision to Jan Blachowicz in London on St. Patrick’s Day. Prior to that, he was knocked out by Volkan ‘No Time’ Oezdemir in July of last year.

Khalil Rountree Jr. and Anthony Smith had both offered their services as replacements but it is understood that the UFC preferred a Brazilian fighter to occupy the main event slot against Manuwa.
