Fans wanting to see the rematch between Tyson Fury and Deontay Wilder are going to have to wait a while.
In a report by ESPN, it appears Fury’s team have informed the WBC and Deontay Wilder’s camp that the ‘Gypsy King’ will take a fight in the Summer before attempting to re-negotiate the second Wilder fight later this year.
It comes just a week after Fury signed a multi-million dollar deal with ESPN and Bob Arum’s Top Rank, causing fans to fear the already murky boxing heavyweight division to get even worse.
As if now, the three top names at heavyweight — Fury, Wilder and Anthony Joshua — are now either in deals or heavily linked with three different networks (ESPN, Showtime and DAZN respectively). With boxing’s history littered with difficult negotiations and egos stopping fights, it’s bad news for what has been touted as a return to the glory days of boxing.
