UFC welterweight champion Kamaru Usman couldn’t help but crack a smile when Ben Askren was resoundingly defeated by Olympic gold medalist Jordan Burroughs in an exhibition wrestling match at Beat the Streets 2019 in New York City on Monday.
Askren, the undefeated mixed martial artist and UFC 170-pound contender, lost the match by technical fall early in the second round when Burroughs opened up an 11-0 lead on the scorecards. In the first round world class wrestler Burroughs landed two high impact takedowns on Askren, who had little to offer in return — and the Kamaru Usman enjoyed every minute of it.

“When shit talking goes wrong,” Usman wrote of the man who has spent the best part of the last few months referring to him as ‘Marty’. “Good thing that was just a wrestling match. Great job as always Jordan Burroughs. Great show.”
A meeting between these two fighters in the UFC’s Octagon appears inevitable but both fighters currently have their plates full. Askren will face Jorge Masvidal on the main card of UFC 239 on July 6 while Usman is expected to defend his title against Colby Covington later this year.
