Conor McGregor has responded to Dustin Poirier’s social media callout in which the American said that a second bout between the pair “makes sense”.
Poirier, who was defeated by Khabib Nurmagomedov in last weekend’s UFC 242 main event in Abu Dhabi, was in reflective mood following the fight. He openly questioned whether he would fight again in a video posted to his Instagram Story, but with that now apparently an afterthought, he wants a second shot at the Dubliner.
The two originally competed at UFC 178 in September 2014 where McGregor, in just his fourth fight with the UFC, defeated Poirier by first round TKO after landing a shot just behind and above the American’s ear, forcing him to the mat where the fight was finished by strikes moments later.
In response to Poirier, McGregor reminded the American fighter of the result.

However, the “I’ll think about it” line does leave the possibility open. McGregor told Ariel Helwani on ESPN that he was close to a return to the cage during the summer before he suffered a hand injury in training. With that particular ailment on the mend, he is set to return to action late this year, or early next.
