While they have been rolling with the punches throughout this Covid-19 pandemic, it seems that the UFC are still running into a few headaches when it comes to their upcoming events.
It had previously been announced by the organisation there would be an event on May 23 which is likely to be headlined by a welterweight fight between Tyron Woodley and Gilbert Burns likely at the UFC Apex followed their three-show run in Jacksonville, Florida.
However, according to a report by MMA Junkie, that May 23 event will now take place on May 30. The UFC has yet to confirm this potential switch.
UFC President Dana White has spoken repeatedly at his desire to host forthcoming UFC events within the company’s multimillion dollar Apex facility in the midst of the governmental restrictions of movement and gatherings amid the coronavirus health crisis. However, even if the facility isn’t open to fans, any cards hosted there will fall under the jurisdiction of the Nevada Athletic Commission, who have yet to reinstate combat sports events in the region.
“We will see what the data reveals based on the science of COVID-19 and move forward accordingly,” Bennett said last month. “We are closed until further notice, and once again the data from the science will determine future events accordingly.”
The card is also set to feature the return of Mackenzie Dern who is to face Hannah Cifers, Other fights mooted include Klidson Abreu vs. Jamahal Hill, and Blagoy Ivanov vs. Augusto Sakai.
