The first major hurdle ahead of the short notice but highly-anticipated world title bout between Kamaru Usman and Jorge Masvidal has been cleared, as ‘Gamebred’ has passed his first Covid-19 test reports ESPN’s Ariel Helwani.
Each fighter taking part in this weekend’s card must overcome a battery of tests and periods of self-isolation ahead of making the walk to the cage in Abu Dhabi next Saturday night and, per Helwani, we are one step closer to that happening.
Jorge Masvidal passed his COVID-19 test. He will be leaving for Abu Dhabi tomorrow.
As a result, the UFC has officially announced the Usman vs. Masvidal fight on its social channels.

BTW, these are same procedures every single fighter competing on these Abu Dhabi cards has to go through, so the Usman – Masvidal fight is now in the same boat as the rest of them. That’s as official as we are going to get these days.

As Helwani notes, this is about as close as we can get to confirming Masvidal’s participation (for now, at least). Usman, of course, must also provide similar clean tests ahead of Saturday night.
