Tyson Fury will have to wait a bit longer if he is to unify the major titles in boxing’s heavyweight division amid reports that ‘The Gypsy King’ will fight Deontay Wilder for a third time in Las Vegas this summer.
Language in Wilder’s contract from his second fight with Fury last year guaranteed him the option of a third fight after losing to Fury by seventh-round TKO in February 2020. It had been speculated that Wilder was to be offered a step-aside fee to allow the highly-anticipated unification fight between Fury and Joshua to take place but ‘The Bronze Bomber’ rubbished such suggestions in an Instagram post on Thursday in which he said that “revenge is priceless”.
It was ruled by an independent arbitration panel this week that Fury must fight Wilder before September 15 and, per numerous reports, that fight is set to take place in either the Allegiant Stadium or the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas on July 24. Both venues will be available at full fan capacity.
This news comes after it was agreed that Fury and Joshua were to meet in Saudi Arabia on August 14 — but that looks like it will have to wait until potentially later in the year, presuming Fury gets past Wilder once more and Joshua wins his mandatory title fight with the undefeated Ukrainian former undisputed cruiserweight champion Oleksander Usyk.
And when the third Wilder fight comes about, Fury says he is going to make an example of his rival.
“Deontay Wilder’s a b*tch, p*ssy, shi*thouse, an excuse maker –- and whoever it is in my next fight, I don’t care who it is: they are getting smashed to bits,” he said.
“I don’t care if it’s King Kong, Godzilla a great white shark; I don’t care who it is, they are getting severely damaged.”
