Just when it looked like cooler heads might prevail in the long-running Jones-Cormier rivalry, newly-crowned UFC heavyweight champion fired a salvo at his two-time opponent — this time over the latter’s commentary style during Jones’ win against Ciryl Gane last weekend.
Jones turned in an impressive performance in his first fight in more than three years, submitting the Frenchman inside the first round of his heavyweight debut to become the latest fighter in UFC ranks to have won titles in two separate weight classes — emulating a similar feat achieved by Cormier in the process.
But despite Jones saying in the lead-in that he has no animosity towards Cormier, he did take a shot at DC’s work on the mic on Saturday night in Las Vegas.
My man couldn’t even pretend to smile, it was pretty funny. Asking what happened, an experience former champion and analyst suddenly not being able to identify a guillotine. 😌 https://t.co/dgqcqdCO34

“My man couldn’t even pretend to smile, it was pretty funny,” wrote Jones on Twitter in response to a fan, while also suggesting that Cormier couldn’t identify the technique he used to finished the fight. “Asking what happened, an experience[d] former champion and analyst suddenly not being able to identify a guillotine.”
The two rivals fought twice in the Octagon, with Jones winning the first in January 2015 by unanimous decision and by knockout in the second — though this result was later changed to a no-contest due to irregularities in a drug test sample submitted by Jones.
