Cory Sandhagen is, in many people’s eyes at least, part of the ‘new breed’ of mixed martial arts fighters.
Whereas in days gone by fighters based their careers in the cage on a foundation of wrestling or boxing (or other disciplines), Sandhagen is part of the generation who came to the sport when it was already a well-established part of the global sporting infrastructure; a far cry from the days of old in which various US states refused to so much as sanction an event.
Sandhagen’s career record shows off the array of skills he has at his disposal. He owns 7 knockouts in his 15 wins, as well as three submissions and five decisions, showing that the 30-year-old Colorado native can win a fight by practically any method. A former challenger for the UFC interim bantamweight title, Sandhagen will look to get his bid for title contention at 135-pounds back on track this weekend in San Antonio, Texas, when he takes on the ever-dangerous Marlon ‘Chito’ Vera in what is set to a high-paced main event fight.
And if you needed any reminder as to Sandhagen’s skills, you can refresh your memory below of his four-round war with Song Yadong from this past September below:
