Ian Machado Garry has a very specific vision for his proposed matchup with Colby Covington.

The 26-year-old Irishman, who sports an unblemished 14-0 career record (7-0 UFC), has publicly called out three-time UFC welterweight title challenger Covington for a high profile bout near the summit of the 170-pound rankings — leaning into the American’s pro-wrestling ‘heel’ persona by proposing an ‘I Quit’ match, which would result in the loser leaving the UFC for good.

Covington answered in kind in a video posted to his social media accounts, accepting the bout so long as Machado Garry agreed to three stipulations related to turning his Instagram comments on and two others involving the Dubliner’s wife.

But speaking to Sky Sports late last week, Machado Garry said that he is the one calling the shots ahead of this hypothetical matchup — and wants to see Covington embarrassed in front of his idol Donald Trump.

“I’m gonna make Colby say [I quit],” Machado Garry said. “Pounding his face on the canvas, I’m gonna point his face to Donald Trump — ‘say it, say it to your president, say it to me, say it to Trump. I want him to look in your eyes when you say that.'”

“Weak, it was weak,” Machado Garry added of Covington’s social media video. “That’s the truth, and we came back with a better clap-back. I thought it was weak considering that he didn’t mention me, nothing was to do about fighting me. He’s trying to avoid me. He doesn’t want to talk about the fight. He’s a man of excuses.

“In my mind, he’s a coward.”

Separately, Machado Garry distanced himself from another figfhter who has suggested a showdown with the Irishman: recent UFC debutante Michael ‘Venom’ Page.

“No. His number is not higher than mine,” Machado Garry said. “I want to be the best in the world, and unless your number is higher than mine, I’m not interested. Unless he passes me in the division somehow and his number is higher than mine, zero interest.”
