Chris Weidman has had a tough go of it lately. 

The former UFC middleweight champion is just 2-7 in his last nine bouts in the UFC dating back to the night he lost his the 185-pound crown to Luke Rockhold at UFC 194 in December 2015 — the very same night that Conor McGregor ended Jose Aldo’s prolonged featherweight winning streak on a famous night in Las Vegas.

Sandwiched among those defeats to Rockhold, Yoel Romero, Dominick Reyes, Jacare Souza and others was a hideous leg break he sustained in the opening seconds of an April 2021 defeat against Uriah Hall; an injury which removed him from competition for the best part of 18 months before his return last August in a decision loss to Brad Tavares.

The biggest bright spark of Weidman’s recent spell though was his July 2017 submission win over former middleweight title contender Kelvin Gastelum, which you can check out below ahead of Weidman’s fight this weekend in New Jersey against the 23-10 Bruno Silva.
