Tom Aspinall has been frustrated so far in his bid to pursue a fight with Jon Jones, and Dana White says he can see his point.

The Briton, the UFC’s interim heavyweight titleholder since he knocked out Sergey Pavlovich in New York City this past November, has actively campaigned for a unification match with Jon Jones — though he has so far drawn a blank in his pursuit of the two-division champion, who remains intent on facing Stipe Miocic when he returns from a pectoral injury sustained late last year.

But speaking to TNT Sports this week, UFC CEO Dana White said that plans are progressing for Aspinall’s next move and suggested that it is up to him if he wants to wait on the sidelines for the winner of Jones-Miocic, or defend his interim crown in a move never seen before in the UFC’s three-decade history.

“If you think right now it’s March, who knows, Jon Jones and Stipe because of the injury, who knows when they’ll fight,” White said of the Jones-Miocic plans. “It’s not right to let Tom to sit. If Tom wants to defend the title, we’ll absolutely do it.”

And according to the UFC boss, Aspinall’s next fight could well come in his home country amid plans from the Las Vegas-based promotion to hold a rare numbered pay-per-view event on British soil in the coming months.

“I have an English heavyweight champion and lots of other European stars. Two champs now out of England,” White said, referencing Aspinall and welterweight champion Leon Edwards.

“That’s another thing that was happening just recently, so we have these teams that build all their different pieces to the puzzle. Then we come together with me and I start trying to fit the pieces of the puzzle together and I’m like this doesn’t fit here, that’s got to go. That’s how it all works.

“We had these fights where it’s like we’re going to do this where? No, we’re going to England. So we’re going to England. We’re coming and I got great fights lined up for the UK fans and I’m excited to get back there.”
