Former UFC featherweight champion Max Holloway has one man in mind to strap the belt on the winner’s waist ahead of his UFC 300 ‘BMF’ title clash with Justin Gaethje at this month’s UFC 300.

Mark Coleman, the first-ever heavyweight champion in UFC history, was hailed as a hero last month after successfully rescuing his parents from a fire in their Ohio home — with Coleman being airlifted to hospital afterwards for treatment after experiencing ill-effects from significant smoke inhalation.

UFC Hall of Famer Coleman, 59, was alerted by his dog Hammer to the fire three weeks ago. After saving both of his elderly parents, Coleman re-entered the Toledo residence to save his dog but was unable to do so due to the severe effects of the fire.

But now out of hospital and on the mend, Holloway says that there is no better candidate to hand over the title to the winner in his upcoming battle with Gaethje than a man who is a real-life ‘BMF.’

“The only correct answer is Mark Coleman,” Holloway said in an interview with MMA Junkie as to who should be involved later this month in the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

“Especially with what he went through recently with his dog and his dog waking him to go save his stuff and he goes in there and runs for his dog? The guy’s a G. That’s a real life BMF. That would be sick if he did it. It would be an honour to get him to do it.”

As for the fight itself, Holloway says that the forthcoming clash with Gaethje that is being hailed as the jewel in the crown for the April 13 event is an opportunity he is relishing.

“The belt is the belt — the belt is cool — it’s whatever,” he said. “The things that can come with the belt can be life-changing, so we’ll see what happens. But I’m more excited that I get to share the Octagon with Gaethje. It’s amazing. It’s amazing to share the octagon with a future Hall of Famer in him and, title or no title, being able to fight him is one of the best things I’m looking forward to.”
