Things didn’t quite go as planned for UFC middleweight Chris Curtis on Saturday night.
Curtis, a key training partner of former champion Sean Strickland, was defeated by split decision in a back and forth war in last weekend’s UFC main event from the promotion’s Apex facility outside Las Vegas — and it may be his last action in the Octagon for quite some time.
In the closing seconds of the fight Curtis, 36, appeared to display the telltale symptoms of a hamstring injury before he was later removed from the cage on a stretcher.
And in a post to social media late on Monday, Curtis revealed the full extent of the injury.
Not the news I wanted…
Grade 3 tear in my hamstring.
Waiting on more info.

“Not the news I wanted…,” he wrote on the social media platform previously known as Twitter. “Grade 3 tear in my hamstring. Waiting on more info. F*ck me.”
It remains to be seen quite how long Curtis can expect to be sidelined with the injury, though a grade 3 tear can sometimes require a six-month recovery — and as with any hamstring injury, returning too soon before it is fully healed risks reinjury.
