Paddy Pimblett has had some heated rivalries in his UFC career to date but has reserved a special brand of animosity for his upcoming opponent Bobby ‘King’ Green.
The 29-year-old former Cage Warriors champion will look to continue his unbeaten 5-0 start in the UFC (21-3 overall) when he takes on veteran striker Bobby Green at UFC 304 in Manchester in late July — a fight which will come seven or so months removed from the biggest win of his career against Tony Ferguson in December.
Prior to that, contests against Jordan Leavitt and Jared Gordon brought with them a certain level of intrigue, namely due to pre-fight slanging matches with Leavitt and post-fight disagreements following what most saw as a subpar showing against Gordon.
But when it comes to Green, Pimblett has made clear that he sees no common ground with the American fighter.
“Bobby Green is just a bellend,” Pimblett told The Mac Life this week. “He’s a proper tool. He’s a proper weapon. He is. The funniest one is, he says, ‘He mentioned me.’ I didn’t mention you! You mentioned me first. So then I mentioned you, you little sausage.
“I think he’s a proper sh*t human being,” he continued. “He’s a proper wanker. Saying that I mentioned him first, he’s just lying. Why would I mention you? Why would I mention Bobby Green?”
Green was last seen in action scoring a decisive win over another veteran, Jim Miller, at UFC 300 — but it is some of Green’s more recent performances which makes Pimblett believe that the fight will be a one-sided one.
“He’s got very good striking,” he said of Green, adding, “but his chin is gone after what happened with Jalin Turner. Jim Miller is no knockout artist and he wobbled him once or twice in that fight at UFC 300. I think that is off Jalin Turner absolutely obliterating Bobby Green’s skull into the canvas.
“So as I said, his striking is very good, his takedown defense is good, and that’s what he’s going to try and do, use his takedown defense and keep it on the feet, because he thinks he’ll out-strike me. But as I said, his chin’s gone. So strike with me, you’ll see what happens.”
