Dustin Poirier and Sean Strickland are among the athletes who have been issued medical suspensions in the wake of last weekend’s UFC 302 event in Newark, New Jersey.

Poirier, who was defeated by Islam Makhachev in the main event, and Strickland, who won a split decision against Paulo Costa, were handed indefinite medica suspensions by the New Jersey State Athletic Control Board. In Poirier’s case he requires medical clearance for suspected nose and knee injuries before he is permitted to return to competition.

Poirier indicated post-fight that he is considering retirement from the sport after losing the bout to the Russian champion.

Strickland, meanwhile, has also been indefinitely suspended and will require an x-ray on a suspected tibia injury before he can return.

Makhachev and Costa were both issued minor suspensions for lacerations and a right foot injury, respectively.

Elsewhere, Michal Oleksiejczuk was indefinitely suspended due to the arm/elbow injury he sustained in his submission loss to Kevin Holland, as were Randy Brown, Elizeu Zaleski dos Santos and Jailton Almeida.

Several other fighters from the UFC 302 card were also given medical suspensions for a variety of ailments, but nothing that should prohibit a return to action in the coming weeks/months.
