Ian Machado Garry didn’t get the Colby Covington fight he wanted at UFC 303 but the Irishman has found a few thing to quarrel with ahead of his fight with Michael ‘Venom’ Page on Saturday night.
During Thursday evening’s pre-fight press conference in Las Vegas, Dubliner Garry made reference to an incident he said could lead to former Bellator fighter Page coming afoul of the UFC or the governing body of this weekend’s event, the Nevada State Athletic Commission.
In what was a heated exchange between the two, Garry said: “I’ve already broke this man’s confidence down so much. He knows, I don’t need to say what I’m talking about. You know exactly what I’m on about. Your self-confidence is f*cked. You know what I’m talking about.”
While he didn’t initially elaborate on exactly what he was referencing, Garry eventually lifted the lid.
“Did you and your team offer thousands of dollars to get information in Chute Boxe from my boys?” he said, mentioning his Brazilian training base. “Did you send someone a message and offer thousands for information, yet couldn’t infiltrate the camp? You couldn’t … the Chute Boxe family is too tight.
“Your little f*cking rat jiu-jitsu coach offered money to one of my Brazilian friends and you got nothing. Saturday night, you’re f*cked.”
“You and your jiu-jitsu coach are getting suspended for life.”
Page, who comes into UFC 303 with a 22-2 record, didn’t wade into Garry’s accusations. “This guy’s hilarious,” he said. “All I know is the one and only ‘MVP’ is here at the UFC and I’m about to make some noise.”
