Little has been heard from Deontay Wilder since his third fight with Tyson Fury last year but the ‘Bronze Bomber’ looks set to return to the ring in a bid to claim what would be his first win since a 2019 victory against Luis Ortiz. 

Per reports, Wilder is set to take on Finland’s Robert Helenius at Brooklyn’s Barclay’s Center on October 15th next, a fight which would take place just days before Wilder turns 37. If and when it is confirmed, the fight will be Wilder’s first outing since his bruising third encounter with Fury during which he was sent to the canvas on three occasions before being knocked out in the 11th round.

Helenius, who is 31-3 as a pro, should be something of a more manageable task for the American. The Finn has been suffered a KO loss to Gerald Washington in 2019 in what was his most recent defeat, and his record also shows a decision loss against Dillian Whyte. He holds wins over the likes of Dereck Chisora, Samuel Peter and most recently Poland’s Adam Kownacki — a fight which took place on the undercard of Wilder’s defeat against Fury last year.

Helenius will likely enter the fight as a sizeable underdog, given that Wilder has knocked out pretty much every fighter not named Tyson Fury that he has faced in his career. Wilder, meanwhile, has recently been training at the UFC Performance Institute in Las Vegas where he recently came face-to-face with Francis Ngannou, in what was a meeting of the two biggest knockout artists of their respective sports.
