There have been some changes in approach to Tyson Fury’s corner team ahead of his rematch in Saudi Arabia this weekend with Oleksandr Usyk, according to reports.
John Fury, Tyson’s father, will not be part of the corner team, according to Tyson Fury’s trainer SugarHill steward, who said this week: “The corner will be me, Andy Lee and the cutman.” Lee, the Irish former WBO middleweight champion, has been a longtime member of Fury’s coaching team.
The news that John Fury will likely be absent follows a fracas with members of Usyk’s entourage in their first bout last May in which the elder Fury allegedly headbutted one of the Ukrainian’s team members. Fury was left with a cut to his head as a result.
The rematch between the two finest heavyweight fighters of their generation takes place on Saturday night in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia and follows their first bout in May which the Ukrainian won by split decision to become the first undisputed heavyweight champion this century.
It was the first defeat of Fury’s professional career, while Usyk added the undisputed heavyweight championship to the undisputed cruiserweight championship he won during his time in that weight class.
