The logjam atop boxing’s heavyweight division is showing no sign of easing up.
Just days after it was revealed that a Covid-19 outbreak in Tyson Fury’s camp looked to have forced the cancellation of the third fight against Deontay Wilder originally scheduled for next weekend, it looks as though we will now have to wait until October to see it.
It was reported that Fury and several members of his team had contracted the virus which forced the cancellation, with his US promoter Bob Arum confirming that Fury had received just one of the two vaccine doses against Covid-19.
“I wanted nothing more than to smash the ‘Big Dosser’ on July 24, but I guess the beating will have to wait,” Fury said of the change. “Make no mistake, I will be back and better than ever. We will fight Oct. 9, and I will knock him spark out!”

Fury had been expected to fight fellow heavyweight champ Anthony Joshua in his next bout until an independent arbiter ruled that language in Wilder’s contract guaranteed him a third fight with Fury.
The Briton won their most recent fight early last year when he knocked out the American in the seventh round, in what was the first defeat of Wilder’s career. Their previous fight was declared a split draw after a late fightback from Fury after he was dropped to the canvas twice in the bout.
Joshua, meanwhile, is expected to take on the challenge of the undefeated former cruiserweight champion Oleksander Usyk in his next fight.
