Daniel Dubois looks set to get his opportunity for revenge against Oleksandr Usyk.
According to numerous reports early on Tuesday, Usyk and Dubois — between them the holders of the major titles in boxing’s heavyweight division — are in talks for a fight at London’s Wembley Stadium on July 12.
Should an accord be found, the bout would represent a rematch of their first fight in August 2023 which was won by the Ukrainian by ninth-round knockout. However, the victory was not without controversy after Usyk was dropped by a low blow earlier in the contest that many observers maintain should have been ruled as a legal strike.
Since then, Dubois has won three straight fights by knockout — including a fifth round stoppage of Anthony Joshua in his last ring appearance in September. Usyk, meanwhile, has won two — both against the previously unbeaten Tyson Fury.
The possible bout, should it be agreed, would come at the expense of the IBF-ordered title bout between champion Dubois and Dereck Chisora.
Usyk had also been strongly linked to a possible defence of his heavyweight title against New Zealand’s Joseph Parker. Dubois had been scheduled to defend his title against Parker in February but was forced to withdraw on fight week after coming down with an illness.
Uysk, boxing’s first undisputed heavyweight champion this century, is widely regarded as the finest heavyweight of his generation. He was also a former undisputed cruiserweight champion.
