Conor McGregor had a very happy birthday.
The Irishman, who turned 36 on Sunday, has long been a prominent football supporter and has noted his support for the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo, Sergio Ramos and Kieran Tierney (among others) over the years, in addition to supporting his local Dublin side Lourdes Celtic with a sponsorship deal several years ago that was used to overhaul the club’s training facilities and provide a bedrock for young talent to prosper.
On Sunday, McGregor followed up his recent wager on Nate Diaz to defeat Jorge Masvidal in the boxing ring (after which he was reported to have won around €1.6 million) by betting on Spain to defeat England in the European Championships final in Germany on Sunday.
And with the game tied at one goal apiece heading into the final five minutes, Real Sociedad’s Mikel Oyarzabal turned in a pinpoint cross from Chelsea’s Marc Cucurella to score the game-clinching goal late on and condemn England to yet more tournament heartbreak and ensure that their 58-year wait for major silverware extends into six decades (at least).
