Dean Barry’s journey in the UFC is over, for now at least.
The Irishman, a student of Owen Roddy, made his long-delayed debut with the UFC last month but wound up on the wrong side of a disqualification after landing two illegal blows against opponent Mike Jackson — and it seems as though he will have to go back to the drawing board before he lands another fight with the organisation.
The result dropped Barry to 4-2 in his mixed martial arts career.
Barry had previously apologised for nature of the illegal shots in his bout with Jackson but later wrote that he suspected that Jackson had made the most of the supposed injuries he sustained in the fight.
Barry had been dominant in the first round against Jackson with the exception of the two illegal blows — one an eye gouge and the other a low blow. He has since deactivated his Twitter account.
Barry was perhaps the most notable name to have been removed from the roster amid a spate of cuts, with others including Team Kaoban wrestler Mike Grundy, former Paddy Pimblett opponent Luigi Vendramini, Kris Moutinho, who fought Sean O’Malley in an entertaining scrap, British MMA fixture Cameron Else, former LFA champion Austin Hubbard and Dana White Contender Series alum Devonte Smith.
