During Saturday’s UFC 238 broadcast it was revealed that the classic 2009 encounter between Diego Sanchez and Clay Guida is to be the latest addition to the Fight Wing of the UFC Hall of Fame.
The incredibly intense contest between the two all-action fighters began with incredible pace. Both men refused to take a backward step, a strategy which saw them throwing leather with the type of reckless abandon which can raise the atmosphere in an arena by a few dozen decibels.
After three rounds Sanchez was awarded the win by spilt decision but the effort from both men was memorable to the point that most fans just remember their meeting for the war that it was, rather than which of the two ultimately had their hand raised.

Both fighters are still active members of the UFC roster. Sanchez, the only cast member from the first season of The Ultimate Fighter to still be active. He is currently in the midst of a two-fight win streak having defeated Mickey Gall and Craig White in succession.
Guida, meanwhile, has won three of his last four. He recently defeated B.J. Penn and also holds wins against Joe Lauzon and Eric Koch in recent years.
The fight becomes the fifth such entrant to the UFC Hall of Fame following Forrest Griffin vs. Stephan Bonnar, Matt Hughes vs. Frank Trigg II, Mark Coleman vs. Pete Williams and Mauricio ‘Shogun’ Rua vs. Dan Henderson.
The UFC Hall of Fame induction ceremony will take place in Las Vegas during International Fight Week on July 5. Michael Bisping, Rich Franklin and Rashad Evans are also being inducted to the Hall of Fame’s Modern Wing.
