Yancy Medeiros is going from one Cowboy to another.
After being involved in a three round epic against Alex Oliveira at UFC 218, Medeiros will move on to Donald Cerrone, facing him in the main event of UFC Fight Night 216 in Austin, Texas. MMAFighting first reported the news.
The bout means Cerrone’s targeted return to 155-pounds will be put on hold. After losing to Darren Till in Gdansk earlier this year, Cerrone had suggested he would head back down to the division he spent the majority of his career at, but would fight less frequently.
It does, however, mean Cerrone will once again fight a bigger man, something that could be a factor as he will attempt to break a three fight losing streak — the worst of his career. For Medeiros, it’s the perfect opportunity to build on the impressive win over Oliveira earlier this month.
Other bouts scheduled to be on the card are
- Derrick Lewis vs. Marcin Tybura
- Ray Borg vs. Brandon Moreno
- Sage Northcutt vs. Thibault Gouti
