Henry Cejudo has rejected any suggestions that he was seeking an early exit from last weekend’s UFC Seattle main event opposite Song Yadong.
Former two-weight champion Cejudo was defeated by decision by Team Alpha Male fighter Song by decision in a fight that ended two round early after it was ruled that Cejudo was unable to continue after sustaining an accidental eye poke from his opponent midway through the bout.
Despite taking the allotted five minutes to recover, Cejudo told the referee and his corner team at the end of the third that he was unable to see out of the affected eye — and subsequently took to social media to show off a gnarly image of the injury and hit out at anyone who thought that he was looking for a way out of the fight.
“Diplopia, Soft Tissue Damage, Corneal Abrasion,” Cejudo wrote on social media of the injury, along with a picture showing visible damage to his left eye. Diplopia is the clinical term for so-called ‘double vision.’
He also wrote in quotes “he wanted a way out,” in what was an apparent dig at his detractors online who suggested that Cejudo was making a meal of the injury.
Referee Jason Herzog opted to not deduct a point from Song, ruling that the foul was accidental. Had he done so, the fight would have been declared a majority draw rather than a decision win for the Chinese. Speaking to the media post-fight, White ruled out the possibility of an immediate rematch.
