Ian Machado Garry isn’t hopeful that he will see Colby Covington in the cage before the end of the year.

Reports emerged earlier this week that the UFC is targeting Garry vs. Covington to headline its December event in Tampa, Florida — and while no official word has come from the organisation itself about the still-hypothetical bout Dubliner Garry says that Covington has so far not expressed any interest in the fight.

Seventh-ranked UFC welterweight Garry has been vocally campaigning to fight Covington (ranked sixth) for several month, initially calling for a fight at UFC 303 in Las Vegas this past summer. Covington, though, who was reported at the time to be recovering from a foot injury sustained in his loss to then-champ Leon Edwards late last year, did not accept and Garry extended his unbeaten record with a decision victory over former Bellator stalwart Michael ‘Venom’ Page.

“I’m coming on to let everyone know, keep everyone in the loop and keep everyone updated because it matters,” Garry said in a video posted to his Instagram account.

“A month ago I was offered a fight with Colby Covington. It took me all of 20 seconds to respond to the email saying yes, I’m in. A month later we’ve still got no response from Colby. He’s avoiding me like the plague and there’s one reason and one reason only this fight isn’t happening and his name is Colby Covington.”
