It’s back to the drawing board for Marvin Vettori.

The Italian former middleweight title contender suffered the fourth loss of his past six fights inside the UFC Apex on Saturday night, losing to Georgian bulldozer Roman Dolidze in what was a rematch of their first meeting almost exactly two years ago — and in which Vettori emerged with his hand raised.

This time around though, Vettori was unable to assert himself to the same extent on the feet and came up short on the judges’ scorecards by a unanimous tally of 49-46.

“Nothing too bad, just some cuts and bruises,” Vettori announced on social media in the aftermath of the bout.

“F*ck man, life sometimes shows you that even if you give your heart out and everything you got, you still fall short. That was a close fight. I almost had him in the third but I guess it wasn’t enough.”

The defeat for Vettori follows losses to Jared Cannonier and Robert Whittaker in recent outings and will see him looking further upwards in the newly-released middleweight rankings this week.
