Ian Machado Garry has been calling for a bout with former three-time title challenger Colby Covington for quite a while. And now he says he has evidence that the American has been avoiding him in the cage.
Garry, who remains undefeated at 15-0 in his mixed martial arts career, had long campaigned for a bout with Covington but had drawn a blank in his pursuit of the American wrestler, accepting a fight with surging contender Joaquin Buckley in a fight that was due to take place in mid-December.
However, you know what they say about best laid plans and all that. It was confirmed this week that Garry will instead fight his (also undefeated) former training partner Shavkat Rakhmonov in the co-main event of UFC 310 on December 7 — with the winner receiving a title shot against reigning champ Belal Muhammad, who was forced to withdraw from a bout with Rakhmonov after sustaining a foot injury in preparation.

But following Garry’s removal from the bout, it was confirmed by the UFC that Covington will step into the cage to fight Buckley — and this is interesting timing according to the Irishman, who has accused the American on social media of consistently avoiding him.
“This just shows that this p**** is ducking me,” Garry said of the Covington-Buckley fight in a video clip posted to social media.
“He’s been ducking me for 7 or 8 months. I signed for the baddest man in the division and this guy comes out of the shadows. He’s a p*ssy. He’s a b*tch and one day I’ll get my hands on him.”
Garry also added that Buckley — a fighter in the midst of a five-fight win streak at 170-pounds — has his full support against Covington.
“Joaquin Buckley, I’m behind you 100% of the way. Go out and put that man to sleep,” he said.
