Jon Jones says he’s giving up his light heavyweight championship.
The 205-pound king has been going back and forth with UFC president Dana White in public over his desire to move to heavyweight and fight Francis Ngannou — while being suitably paid for doing so.
Both White and Jones have accused each other of lying about their actions during those negotiations, with White suggesting Jones had asked for “Deontay Wilder money” and saying he didn’t “give a fuck” about how the UFC’s finances work.
For Jones, he maintains he never gave White a figure, and instead the UFC bosses told him he would get no increase at all to move up in weight before any money was even discussed.
Today on social media, Jones took it all to the next level, saying he would vacate his world title and was content to sit out of the sport until an interesting fight or a bigger pay day came his way.
“Reyes vs Jan For the UFC light heavyweight championship of the world. As of right now, I got nothing to really gain fighting either of them. Let me know if you guys want to set up a day in 2021 for that Izzy fight. Hopefully you guys will be willing to pay by then,” Jones wrote. “To the light heavyweight title Veni, vidi, vici. I hurt myself every time I walk out there and take a punch to the head and Not feel my pay is worth it anymore.”

If the UFC acknowledge Jones’ decision, it’ll mark the third time Jones has lost the UFC light heavyweight title, and the third time he hasn’t done so inside the Octagon.
