Khamzat Chimaev wants to get down to business at 185-pounds.

The undefeated fighter, who is a perfect 7-0 in the UFC, was due to fight former middleweight champion Robert Whittaker in Saudi Arabia last month but was ultimately forced to withdraw from the bout due to illness. Former Chimaev opponent Ikram Aliskerov was defeated by Whittaker by first-round knockout in his stead.

But despite have fought just five times in nearly four years, Chimaev, 30, says that the time has come for his first title opportunity in the UFC and says that it should come at the UFC’s October event in Abu Dhabi.

“Most likely [I will fight in] in October in Abu Dhabi,” Chimaev told Russian media after translation, per MMA Junkie. “[Against who is] unknown so far. I would like to fight for the title.”

That timeline would place him on a collision course with the winner of next month’s middleweight title bout between champion Dricus du Plessis and Israel Adesanya — though it remains to be seen if the winner would accept what would be a relatively short turnaround to make the late October Abu Dhabi date, or even if they would agree to face Chimaev in the UAE where he currently resides.

Nonetheless, Chimaev suggets that his body of work is worthy of title recognition.

“I have seven fights, seven victories,” he said. “There is no fighter in the UFC who has won seven fights without fighting for the belt.”

It should be noted that two fighters on the UFC roster have won their first seven fights without being awarded a title shot: Ian Machado Garry and Movsar Evloev.

Chimaev has been near flawless in his UFC run to date, exploding onto the scene with three wins between July and September 2020. However, he has fought just four times since then — most recently a majority decision win against former welterweight champion Kamaru Usman last October.
