Max Holloway has tried and failed to be the man to end Alexander Volkanovksi’s unbeaten streak at 145-pounds — but will now attempt to hand another surging featherweight his first defeat in the UFC.
The Hawaiian former champion will take on the UK’s Arnold Allen at the UFC Fight Night event on April 15 pending the signing of bout agreements from both fighters, though this is expected to be a formality to be confirmed in the coming days following verbal agreements between both camps.
A location for the fight card has not yet been announced.
Holloway, one the winner of 13 straight at featherweight, remains something of an odd man out at featherweight after losing on three occasions to current champion Volkanovski but could re-establish title credentials with a win against Allen who in unbeaten in the UFC through ten fights — and stands at 19-1 as a professional.
The 29-year-old Englishman has been in fine form in recent outings, defeating Calvin Kattar in his last fight after the American injured his knee early in the second round. Prior to that, Allen turned in a career-best performance when he blitzed Dan Hooker in the first round of their meeting at UFC London last March.
As for Holloway, his trio of losses to the current champion are his only defeats at featherweight dating back to his decision defeat to Conor McGregor back in August 2013.
