Max Holloway’s UFC featherweight title defence against Brian Ortega has been rescheduled to take place at UFC 231 on December 8, it has been confirmed by the organisation.
Holloway was slated to face Ortega at UFC 226 in July but the Hawaiian was pulled from the card after exhibiting concussion-like symptoms on fight week but with his health now fully in check, the match-up between the world’s top two ranked 145-pound fighters looks to have found its new home at the event in Toronto.
The champion has won 12 straight bouts in the UFC’s featherweight fold since an August 2013 loss to Conor McGregor, including successive TKO victories against former champion Jose Aldo.

Ortega, meanwhile, is undefeated in his professional career through 15 bouts. His UFC debut in July 2014 against Mike De La Torre is the sole blemish on his career to this point, as it was ruled a no-contest after Ortega was notified of a USADA violation in the wake of the bout. It was originally held as a rear naked choke victory for Ortega.
Since then, Ortega has put together an impressive run at 145-pounds with his last two outings being victories against highly-regarded fighters Cub Swanson and Frankie Edgar. His first-round TKO win against Edgar last March was the first time that the former lightweight champion had been ‘finished’ in a professional bout.
Holloway vs. Ortega joins will top a card which also features a women’s flyweight title bout between Valentina Shevchenko and Joanna Jedrzeczjyk.
