Alexander Volkanovski and Diego Lopes are licking their wounds following their five-round war at last weekend’s UFC 314 event in Miami, Florida.

Volkanovski, 36, became a two-time featherweight champion in his five-round decision win over Lopes, who now drops a few rungs on the 145-pound ladder as the Australian champion assesses the challenges of top contenders like Movsar Evloev, Jean Silva and Yair Rodriguez. But before his next step can be confirmed, both Volkanovski — who was reported to be suffering from a damaged hand in the aftermath of the fight — and Lopes will have to sit out a while as their injuries recover.

According to the Florida Athletic Commission (FAC), both Volkanovski and Lopes have been medically suspended following the event. Volkanovski has been issued with a 45 day suspension, while Lopes is suspended indefinitely per the record obtained by MMA Junkie.

As per usual, both can be cleared to return if they are cleared by a relevant medical professional.

Elsewhere, Michael Chandler was suspended for 60 days following his fight with Paddy Pimblett, who is cleared to return to competition immediately, while Bryce Mitchell is suspended for 30 days following his submission defeat to Jean Silva who, like Pimblett, can return immediately.
