UFC bantamweight champion Sean O’Malley will be on the shelf a while following last weekend’s UFC 299 event in Miami, Florida. 

Days after his comprehensive decision win against Marlon ‘Chito’ Vera, O’Malley has been ordered by the Florida State Athletic Commission to undergo and immediate and indefinite medical suspension while injuries sustained in the bout are addressed. In the post fight press conference, O’Malley appeared to be displayed an unknown injury to his leg as well as another to him right arm.

However, the specific nature of O’Malley’s injury or injuries have not been publicly disclosed due to medical privacy protocols.

As ever with medical suspensions issued following events, O’Malley will once again be eligible to compete when he is cleared by a relevant medical professional.

Vera, meanwhile, who was wearing visible damage on his face during the fight, has been ordered to undergo a 60-day medical suspension.

Four others from UFC 299 have also been handed indefinite suspensions: Jack Della Maddalena, who broke his arm during his fight with Gilbert Burns (who has also received the same medical suspension). Additionally, Ion Cutelaba and Philipe Lins are also indefinitely medically suspended.

Similarly to O’Malley, all four will be permitted to return to action once cleared by a medical professional.
