A heavyweight clash between Dutch fighter Stefan Struve and fomer Bellator heavyweight champion Alexander Volkov will headline the UFC’s return to Rotterdam in the Netherlands in September, it has been announced by the promotion.
It will be a battle of the beanpole heavyweights, as the 7 foot tall Struve faces the 6’7″ Volkov in a fight which will likely place the winner on the verge of a top ten ranking in the UFC’s heavyweight division.
This will be Struve’s second UFC appearance inside the Ahoy Arena in Rotterdam. In May of last year, he defeated Antonio ‘Bigfoot’ Silva by TKO just 16 seconds into their bout. He added to that with a D’Arce choke submission win over Daniel Omielanczuk last October to move to 3-1 in his last four (28-8 overall in his career).

In Alexander Volkov though, Struve will face a serious test. The Russian boasts a 28-6 career record, with 18 of those victories coming by way of knockout. Volkov has two decision wins on his UFC record thus far, besting Roy Nelson and Timothy Johnson. Prior to that, Volkov held the Bellator heavyweight title in 2012 before losing it to the still undefeated Vitaly Minakov.
UFC Rotterdam will take place in the Ahoy Arena in Rotterdam on September 2nd. It is expected that the event will stream on UFC Fight Pass.
