Tito Ortiz, the 46-year-old fighter and occasional politician, has announced that he is set to make a return to fighting.
Ortiz, who resigned his position as Mayor Pro Tem for Huntington Beach city council earlier this year, announced on social media that he has signed a bout agreement for an upcoming fight — but the opponent, or even the specific combat sport in which it will take place, has not yet been released.
The former UFC light heavyweight champion has been absent from the cage since he defeated pro wrestler Alberto El Patron via first-round submission in late 2019, a fight which came just over a year after he knocked out an ageing Chuck Liddell in what was the third fight between the two former UFC title rivals.

In fact, Ortiz’s results recently have been impressive. Since he was defeated by Forrest Griffin in his final UFC bout in 2012, Ortiz has won five of six — with his wins also including submissions against Chael Sonnen and an impressive win against Alexander Shlemenko in what was his Bellator debut in 2014.
His sole loss since 2012 came in a world title fight against then-Bellator champ Liam McGeary.
You can expect to hear more news on his upcoming opponent in due course, and one wonders if Ortiz is going to try his hand at the celebrity boxing subplot which seems to be so popular these days — and you can be sure that he will have noticed that his former opponent Vitor Belfort has been handed what one assumes to be a decent payday to take on former boxing champ Oscar De La Hoya in his comeback fight later this year.
