The last time the UFC had an event planned for the English capital the card very much went the way of Murphy’s Law, in that just about everything that could go wrong went wrong.

Ultimately, March 2020 fight card which was set to be headlined by a bout between Tyron Woodley and Leon Edwards fell apart at the eleventh hour as restrictions brought on by the onset of what would soon become a global pandemic impacted and eventually forced the cancellation of the card.

Now, essentially two years to the day later, the UFC is back in town and after Friday’s early morning weigh-ins everything (with one exception) is progressing entirely as planned.

Each fighter who stepped on the scales this morning in London hit their mark successfully, including both men in the heavyweight main event — England’s Tom Aspinall and Moscow native Alexander Volkov. Dan Hooker, meanwhile, also hit featherweight championship weight for his return to the 145-pound to take on the 8-0 in the UFC Arnold Allen.

Gunnar Nelson, who takes on Japan’s Takashi Sato in what is his first Octagon assignment since September 2019, also weighed in within the welterweight non-title limit. The sole fight which fell off the card was the bout between Nathaniel Wood and Vince Morales, after Morales fell ill in the days before weighing in.
