There is no one else on the UFC roster quite like Bryce Mitchell.
The 30-year-old Arkansas native returned to the cage at this past weekend’s UFC 310 in Las Vegas where he scored a third-round TKO finish of Kron Gracie; a fighter whose last name is synonymous with the sport.
The victory came almost a year after Mitchell’s last fight where he was viciously knocked out inside the first round by Josh Emmett — but while his resurgent win was one of the most notable events on the action-packed UFC 310 card, the media couldn’t quite ignore comments made by Mitchell last week in which he expressed his contempt for seatbelts.
And according to Mitchell, UFC boss Dana White shares his views.
“He said ‘f*ck ’em,’ word for word,” Mitchell said, recounting White’s post-fight comments to him in the cage to the media (including The Mac Life) late on Saturday night,
“No [I’ve never received a ticket] but I’ve been pulled over and kind of like had a debate — but I’ve always respected the officers, that’s the number one thing. If you get pulled over, just respect the officer. But they’ve given me a warning before but from now on, if you get pulled over just put it on real quick — that’s what I do.
“But here’s my logic: not only should I not have to wear a seatbelt because it’s my choice but there’s people that ride motorcycles… Hell, I see people riding motorcycles with no helmet and that’s their freedom to do that.
“What it really is is a way to boost revenue for the town. They just tax people, that’s all it is. They want to give you a ticket, it’s a way to tax you.”
We’re not 100% sure if we should take safety advice from a man who once accidentally stapled his own scrotum to his leg, but here we are.
