What a year it has been for Darren Till.

365 days ago the Liverpool fighter was preparing for what would be just his second bout since injuring his shoulder in an October 2015 bout with Nicolas Dalby in Dublin. On September 2 of last year, Till outstruck and outpointed Bojan Velickovic in Rotterdam and that performance, added to his comeback win against Jessin Ayari the previous May, set the Englishman up for a UFC main event in Gdansk, Poland, opposite Donald ‘Cowboy’ Cerrone.

After a brief, violent first round finish it was apparent that the UFC had a potential star on their hands. After a series of false starts, it was finally announced that Till would face Stephen ‘Wonderboy’ Thompson in the first ever UFC event in his hometown of Liverpool.

One close decision victory later and Till had placed himself in pole position to be the next challenger to Tyron Woodley’s 170-pound title, a fight which takes place at UFC 228 in Dallas, Texas, on September 8.
