Longtime fans of the sport of mixed martial arts will be more than familiar with Mark Kerr.

‘The Smashing Machine,’ as the former NCAA Division I national champion and two-time UFC heavyweight tournament champion was known throughout his career, was one of the brightest lights in the early days of MMA as he transitioned his dominant grappling into the Wild West days of the sport, adding headbutts and ground strikes to his arsenal as he went unbeaten through his first 13 career fights.

In fact, there was a time in which Kerr was considered as practically unbeatable. However, following a series of injuries and personal battles outside of the cage Kerr — now 56 — would win just three of his final 12 fights.

Kerr’s story was first immortalised in the 2002 documentary ‘The Smashing Machine’ which showed the physical and mental toll that a fighter can undergo to reach the summit of combat sports — with his story also noticed by Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson, who joined up with the A24 studio to produce a biopic of Kerr in which the former wrestler turned actor stars in the feature role.

You can check out the trailer below for what looks like being one of the best mixed martial arts biopics in recent memory.
