These days, there’s something special about an Alex Pereira fight week.
Since his debut with the UFC in November 2021 ‘Poatan’ has emerged as one of the biggest stars in the company’s recent history, winning titles in two weight classes and scoring some of the most memorable finishes seen in the UFC’s heavier weight categories in years.
On Saturday night in the UFC 313 headliner from inside the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Pereira faces a considerable challenge in the face of Magomed Ankalaev — who is expected to provide an examination of the Brazilian’s grappling credentials in the five-round bout.
Pereira, though, has proved time and again that his world champion-level kickboxing acumen is a step above many of his peers in the Octagon — as he showed last October against the game challenge of Khalil Rountree in their title bout in which the American started strong before succumbing to a fourth-round finish.
