It’s not exactly common for four world title fights to take place between two fighters, but that’s how close the Brandon Moreno and Deiveson Figueiredo rivalry has been.
Between December 2020 and January of this year, the two flyweight standouts have combined to share close to 90 minutes in the cage with one another, in a series which has seen them split their first three fights 1-1-1 (win-loss-draw). But in January, it was Moreno who bookended their rivalry, forcing doctors to stop their fourth fight after Figueiredo suffered an injury to his right eye courtesy of a clubbing left hand from the Mexican.
Moreno will take on another Brazilian, Alexandre Pantoja, next weekend at UFC 290 in Las Vegas in defence of his 125-pound crown — against the last man (Figueiredo aside) to have scored a win against him in the UFC.
