This one must have felt good.
When Israel Adesanya made the walk to rematch Alex Pereira at UFC 287 in April 2023, he could have been forgiven for having a shred of doubt in his mind. In their previous three fights, spanning two separate combat sports, Adesanya had been defeated by his Brazilian rival — including a TKO defeat less than six months prior in what was their first meeting in mixed martial arts.
That result would not be repeated. In the second round of what was their fourth fight against one another, Adesanya — who looked to be on the ropes at the time — connected with a clubbing right which stunned Pereira. The follow-up shot, another right hand but this time to the temple, proved to be the fight-ender. And perhaps the most satisfying win of his career to date.
In ten days time, Adesanya will seek to become a three-time middleweight champion when when he fights Dricus du Plessis in the UFC 305 main event from Perth, Australia.
