UFC welterweight Vicente Luque has scored some high profile wins in his nine-year, 21-fight career with the organisation.

Few though are quite as impressive as his March 2021 submission win over the division’s former champion Tyron Woodley, hailed by some as among the finest 170-pound fighters in mixed martial arts history.

At next week’s UFC 310 in Las Vegas, Nevada, Luque was poised to take on another well-known name on the UFC roster: Nick Diaz. However, it was announced in recent days that this fight had been scrapped for unknown reasons — with the 14-4 Zimbabwean Themba Gorimbo drafted in as a replacement.

Gorimbo, winner of four straight, could take the highest profile scalp of his career if he manages to extend that winning streak next Saturday night but in Luque, he faces a fighter capable of winning wherever the bout goes. Just ask Tyron Woodley.
