Long before the welterweight reigns of Kamaru Usman and Leon Edwards, there was one man who dominated the UFC’s 170-pound category.
In a UFC run that began in early 2004 and which ended by winning a world title in a second weight class inside Madison Square Garden in Novemner 2017, St-Pierre was almost flawless — save for defeats to Matt Hughes and Matt Serra, both of which would later be avenged. Indeed, by the time he hung up his gloves soon after his win against Michael Bisping in New York, the Canadian icon had won 13 straight fights — with one of those being a back-and-forth war with Carlos Condit in November 2012.
Condit, a former WEC champion, entered his title bout with St-Pierre having won 13 of his past 14, the last of which was an interim 170-pound title win over Nick Diaz which earned his a shot at the formal championship held by GSP.
And after a five-round war, both men bore the battles scars of what is regarded by many as being among the best UFC welterweight title bouts in history.
